How are converging and diverging lenses used in telescopes and microscopes?

Hi. Both telescopes and microscopes use similar optical techniques. In a telescope the main objective is a converging element, either using refraction in a conventional lens or reflection in a mirror (usually spherical or parabolic) to bring distant objects into a focal plane which is observed with a magnifying lens (the eyepiece). Not too familiar with optical micrescopes but I think the inverse may be true.
