Do you think "intellect" has taken a back seat to fun/pleasures?

Maybe they are seeking a sense of unity with those who are similarly fashionable, being 'united' with the present culture because they don't know what is better yet. Maybe its an anthropological genetic tribal satisfaction or something like that.
